Mummy Diorama

By Sean Farrell

Some years back, I built this Mummy Diorama for Creaturescape Magazine. I mixed the Geo-Metric Mummy figure, which is based on Boris Karloff, with the sarcophagus from the plastic kit of the 1999 Mummy movie, released by Polar lights.

I got to work on the vinyl kit of the Geo-Metric Mummy. After assembly, I gave him a base coat of flat black. Then I dry-brushed the lighter colors on, making sure the raised areas got plenty of coverage.

Once the figure was ready, I got to work on the sarcophagus.

When the sarcophagus was complete, I started work on the "set" of the diorama. Poster boards were used for the basic support. I then used floral foam for the stonework of the walls. As with the mummy, I also gave the background a flat black base coat, then dry-brushed the lighter colors onto this. The ground work is made from Sculpt-A-Mold.

After giving the sarcophagus a few last minute touch ups, I added it and the Mummy to the base. After thousands of years of slumber, he walks among us once more!
