I never had the Giant Insect when I was a kid, so I when I got the
re-release from Moebius, I was very pleasantly surprised
to see how large this thing was when I finished assembling it. I left off the wings
because I thought it looked better that way (I've saved the wings for the spare
parts box). I assembled it without any glue, and it fits together very well. I
used putty to cover the holes where the wings would have gone, as well as to
cover the slit in the hook at the end of its tail.

I painted the eyes on the inside, then left them off until the very last thing,
so I could have access to the inside of his head--where I painted it flat black,
after placing a wad of putty inside to act as a counter weight for the tail.
I was originally thinking about sticking this in the background of a dio, but the
sucker's so huge, I think I might make him the star of his own diorama. Watch this
space.
Update: I was inspired from watching the TV series Heroes. Why not have the
giant insect battle superheroes? I assembled two styrene blank figures that were
1/24 in scale. Then I created their superhero outfits using Aves Sculpt. Once the
putty dried, I painted them up as Green Lantern and Superman.

Then, when the figures were ready, I placed them in position on the Giant Insect. It looks
like GL and Supes are losing this battle! Better call in the rest of the Justice League.
