The Great Space Fighters

The Viper From Battlestar Galactica

When Revell Monogram re-released the Battlestar Galactia kits recently, I simply had to buy myself a Viper. I fell in love with these fighters when I first saw them as a kid twenty years ago. With the help of the Corel Photo-Paint program, I was able to place my Viper model against a space background. I was also able to duplicate the image of the model so that I now have two Vipers on patrol. This is my very first computer enhanced picture.

Update 06/25/09: See my newly built and painted Viper right here.

The Starfury from Babylon 5

After waiting four long years, Revell Monogram came to the rescue of Babylon 5 fans everywhere by releasing the Starfury model kit. In the series, the Starfury is Earth Force's main space fighter, built exclusively for operating in zero gravity. I painted my Starfury model as a PsiCorps version. Once again, I placed the image of my model against a space scene using Corel Photo-Paint. The background image I chose is a shot of the eye of Jupiter from the Hubble Space Telescope.

The TIE Fighter from Star Wars

You can't imagine how happy I was when AMT/ERTL finally released a kit of the classic TIE Fighter from Star Wars. Although this fighter made its screen debut in the first Star Wars movie back in 1977, a TIE model kit wasn't released until twenty years later in 1997. I must say the kit was worth the wait. You get two TIE Fighters in 1/48 scale with clear stands that attach themselves to a base modelled after a section of the Death Star surface. The TIE you see here is painted in the standard blue-gray paint scheme. By the way: the word TIE stands for Twin Ion Engines, which is the power plant for this zero-gravity fighter.
